random orientation and randomly interchanging b/w

Post by dohduhdah »

Hi.

I've been using goproblems.com a lot and recently I've also been using the Go Child website a lot. One feature that is very nice there is that it picks a random orientation and randomly interchanges the black and white colors for each problem, so most problems are available in 16 different versions. This is a feature that is sorely lacking on goproblems.com but I do realize that it would be hard to have comments about problems where people talk about specific locations on the board or a particular side to move. Maybe one solution could be that all the comments are associated with a particular default orientation of a problem that you could switch to, to add or review the associated comments, while being able to randomly pick an orientation or coloration while solving problems or navigating the solution.
On the other hand, the navigate-solution option of goproblems.com is a feature that is sorely lacking on GoChild (gochild2009.appspot.com), but it would be truly awesome if it was possible to combine the best features of both sites. It's possible to step through alternative solutions at GoChild, but there is no tree structure to represent various situations occurring during alternative progressions like there is at goproblems.com via the 'Navigate Solution' option.

Kind regards, Niek

this is something that has often been proposed, and there's some merit. but the problem with the comments is not insignificant.

A simple way to cope with this would be to show and use the "base" problem for comments. This way when the user was doing time trials/practice, they would be presented with randomized orientation / coloring, as soon as they choose to view/add comments it would show the "base" problem.

This plus randomization of the time trials would be fantastic for practicing.
