Translating Josekipedia?

Post by LindseyK »

How does one translate the Josekipedia site itself, or the labels, etc.?

I saw someone had added commentary to one of the positions in Russian or some other cyrillic language or something similar. I believe here would be a good place to discuss how translations for the commentary work. Will we have the official commentary in English and people can make translations based on the english commentary? That would imply that every change to the commentary needs to be translated as well, and with thousands of variations and commentary for a significant portion of it (in fact I could easily see having commentary for every move of some joseki)... this implies way too much work. There is something to be said for Wikipedia's simply having (in effect) a different encyclopedia for each language.

gnos -- this is precisely the reason for the labeling system: when positions are labeled, they get translated automatically. of course, not everything can be expressed with a label, but this is the best way. past that, everything must be translated as you say.
