im not to good at this game and i don't know what the ranks mean can some one tell me?

Grades are given by kyu and dan. The rule here is:
* dan is always stronger than kyu
* low kyus and high dans are strongest
Each 1 degree dan or kyu difference is equivalent to one stone on a 19x19 Go board.
A beginner would be something like 25-30 kyu; a top amateur player would be 7 dan.
