comments can foil forced paths

Adding a comment creates a new path to the problem.

If the comment path happens to branch from the problem paths at a node that has forced continuations, then adding the comment makes the applet accept a move that the contributor tried to disable,

see http://goproblems.com/prob.php3?id=13525 for an example.

I wish I could permanently clip branches that are irrelevant due to fixes. Even when all the comments are deactivated, the old path can't be removed. Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

Yes, that's a point. Comment paths can look strange, especially when you have modified the initial position.

But those paths can't just be removed because deactivated comments must be read when required.

So, my idea is: Don't care too much about deactivated comments and their paths.

What do others think?

Thank you for your reply. It is a minor thing, but it can add white noise to an otherwise concise problem and discussion. I don't know if letting members delete their own comments would cause problems, but it might help to delineate between deactivating and deleting. I'm not familiar enough with the site yet to understand the value of deactivated comments. I was treating it like deletion.
