1. Add a number of problems test for a kyu level. Then give a % solved as you go along. If person a solves move than 50% of the problems they may want to try a higher level problem the next time.
The current time trials don't really tell you much about how you're doing since once you run out of smily faces you're through.
2. An alternative number of problems test could be, if the user solves the problem give them a higher level problem. If they fail the problem give them a lower level problem. Let the user input the starting level.
