Problem Translation

Post by adum »

Today we start on an ambitious project to translate the text of every problem into every language. Any registered user can contribute.

This has been a requested feature for many years. It took a while to make the right structure. The system does the smart thing now: the text you translate in one problem will be translated in all.

Please let me know what works, and what doesn't.

Hi Adum,

When I translate problems from the untranslated list I repeatedly get German sentences to translate instead of English.
For instance 'Schwarz soll etwas Effektives an der Seite machen.' (Black to do something effective on the side.).

I can do that, but it seems to be a bug.
I accidentally and correctly translated 'Mausefälle.' (Mousetrap.) to 'Muizeval.' btw. Hope that does not disrupt anything.

If I skip the German sentences I get French ones... which I find much more difficult to translate, bien sur.

Did not see the Google Translate feature before.

It does not hurt to have it but the usefullnes is minimal.

"Black to quickly capture some White stones."
translates into
"Zwart aan sommige Witte stenen snel vast te leggen."
which means something like
"Black on some White stones quick fixed to lay."

It won't arrive within a month is my first thought...

Google Translate expecting lengthy way to vanish. You know what I mean.

Hi, adum.

Sometimes it's quite hard to understand what is the exact meaning of phrase, without knowing the context.

Maybe link to certain problem (for which to translate) will be good? I

Hi, again.

We need some way to mark sentence as wrong.

For example, it's "," sentence to translate (comma only), but I will see id only when I try to translate it (BTW, it's 3346).

This is way too ambitious of a goal. I'm glad more of the problems will be available to more players. But every problem every language? Do you realize this is going to be about 55 million translations?? Craziness in my opinion.

We already translated ~1.9% of all existing text in all problems in my language.

Kickstarter is also looks like craziness? =)

I look through another people's translation and some are wrong (maybe some of mine are wrong too, it's ok), but there is no way to point at this.

So, we need wikipedia edition mechanism =)
