Hi,

Behind "9" we see "_"
Not really easy to understand a comment like : a pincer attack by playing say 11.

How can we understand the comments ?

If black were to tenuki, white could play 3-3 to wrest away some profit, can build outward influence by pressing with 3 or start a pincer attack by playing say 11.

As for black, against the approach he can adopt solid measures such as 3, 6, and 11, Otherwise, a positive, attacking direction could be adopted by a pincer attack on the white stone with 4,5,7,8,9, or 10.

You could say that the variations against the small knight's approach to the three-four point are the richest among all joseki.
