Contribution game

Post by mafutrct »

How about a little game? For each useful contribution, users are awarded a point. Extra points are awarded for difficult or important moves. For instance, moves at early positions in the tree, or moves that have been in the database for a long time but still have no source, ...

In my experience, this improves quality quite a bit. Of course we have to prevent gaming the system, but I think that's doable.

i like ideas like this in general, but it's hard to come up with an exact system.

the users page (http://www.josekipedia.com/find/users.php) currently shows a kind of point system -- one point per edit.

i have thought about letting users vote on the quality of people's contributions -- an up or down arrow next to each line in the history. people would get a score based on the delta. does that sound interesting?

I dislike the voting idea. I think too many people would vote without properly researching the variation they are voring on. "I don't know this, it must be wrong, I'll downvote!"

I guess this current system is ok after all.
